Life Cycle of an Asian Elephant
Baby
Elephants are babies until they stop drinking their mother's milk. This can be between 5-10 years old. Once an elephant can survive by eating plants only, it is no longer considered a baby.
When an elephant is a baby they are taught all the things they will need to know about living in a herd and the environment around them. They also learn how to clean, eat, walk and be healthy.

Adolescent (Teenager)
The next stage of an elephant's life is from the age when an elephant stops drinking its mother's milk until about 17 years old.
This is the time when male Asian elephants begin to move away from the main herd and become larger and stronger.
